Kathy A. McCloskey, PhD, PsyD, ABPP, joined the faculty of the University of Hartford Graduate Institute of Professional Psychology (GIPP) in the fall of 2002. She is a licensed clinical psychologist and board certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP). Prior to joining the Graduate Institute, she served as a Team Leader for a multi-professional group providing general mental health services to inmates at the Ohio Reformatory for Women, Ohio’s only women’s prison. She also served as the Clinical Director for a batterer’s treatment program housed at the Wright State University School of Professional Psychology, providing training to doctoral-level psychology students in the area of domestic violence. She also provided violence prevention services in the Hartford Public Schools and supervised GIPP trainees on-site. In 1998 she was a recipient of the Psychological Dimensions of Peacework Award by the Psychologists for Social Responsibility, and along with co-author Nancy Grigsby, was awarded the Psychotherapy With Women Award in 2006 from the Society for the Psychology of Women (Division 35 of the American Psychological Association) for their published article entitled “The Ubiquitous Clinical Problem of Adult Intimate Partner Violence.” As a licensed ergonomist (e.g., research psychologist), she worked as a civilian scientist for the United States Air Force for ten years. She has over 60 publications and presentations throughout her professional career.
